A loyal and long standing customer to Griffon Hoverwork, the Estonian Border Guard have operated a 2000TD since 1999 and a 1000TD since 2007. Based at Lake Peipsi, a border shared with Russia, the Estonian Border Guard are now strengthening their fleet with a 2400TD series craft.
With the hovercraft modified to operate in extreme cold conditions, the Estonian Border Guard use their Griffon Hoverwork craft for border patrol, fishery patrol, medical evacuation and ice rescue duties. The Border Guard's 1000TD and 2000TD craft save on average 250 lives per year through ice rescue.
The new 2400TD craft is a fast, versatile and robust single engine hovercraft and will be equipped with two deck winches and a crane as well as Search and Rescue equipment.
Craft that face cold climates can be specially kitted out to endure harsher temperatures, such as specialist insulation and an internal heating system. In colder climates where environmental preservation is key, hovercraft are the ideal solution. With low decibel noise frequency and low level underwater noise, hovercraft are much more environmentally friendly than conventional vessels and helicopters.
For duties in cold climates with snow, ice or blizzards, a hovercraft's ability to traverse terrains with ease make them the only viable transport solution.
