Griffon Hoverwork Ltd (GHL) has just won the contract to refurbish the Finnish Border Guard’s Griffon 2000TD hovercraft.
This is the third refurbishment that the company will carry out for the Border Guard – GHL recently completed the refurbishment of a 15 year old 2000TD hovercraft. Given its age, it was returned to the Griffon site in exceptionally good condition, due to the fact it had originally been built from aluminium rather than the alternative material GRP.
The latest hovercraft to be refurbished will be delivered to GHL’s workshop in Southampton, UK on 20th May 2010 and will be completed by October 2010.
The Finnish Border Guard currently operate 3 craft in the Baltic Sea throughout the year and they are especially useful when the Baltic ices over, as hovercraft can traverse snow and ice with ease.
The refurbishment will give the craft a new lease of life and the 2000TD will be reintegrated into the Border Guard’s large fleet of conventional vessels.
Refurbishment of aged hovercraft are just one of the many after-sales packages that Griffon Hoverwork Ltd offer. Pilot and engineer training, mid-life refits and on-going service/maintenance can all be provided by the company, allowing users to get the maximum return on their hovercraft, which in many cases can prolong the life of a craft by several years.
