Griffon Hoverwork Ltd is the world leader in diesel amphibious hovercraft. We have a South Coast, UK based manufacturing facility that is currently experiencing an increase in demand for new build and refurbishment of boats and hovercraft. To help us meet this growth we are expanding our role with several opportunities across many disciplines including: aluminium fabricators, electricians, marine engineers, designers, procurement specialists and outfitters.

Marine Electricians

With much of the exterior fabrication completed on three new hovercraft, we need marine electricians to progress the next stages of the build.

 

Job Details

Working within the electrical team to produce small production runs of vessels for various commercial applications specific to customer requirements.

Applicants should have a sound knowledge of fundamental electrical installation working practices, capable of working to a consistent high standard, and work well within mixed trade teams.

Responsible for running cables throughout the vessel.

Installing cabling support systems including conduit, tray, and cable transits.

You will be required to read and interpret electrical drawings.

Installation of electrical equipment of varying size.

Fault finding on electrical circuits and equipment as required.

Carry out electrical testing to include insulation, continuity, phase and earth.

Ability to use crimping tools.

Able to accurately solder.

Set to work electrical machinery and equipment.

Self-certify own installations.

Terminate various multi pin plugs.

 

We are looking for someone with the following:

The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings is essential

Must have completed an appropriate engineering apprenticeship

Must be flexible and adaptable to all types of work

Must understand and work to the requirements of the Health and Safety and Environmental legislation Act

Must have experience of working in a continuous improvement environment and be willing to make an active contribution to the process / team

Marine Outfitters

With the aluminium structural and hull work on two of three hovercraft we are building being well advanced we are looking for  motivated individuals to join our Marine Outfitting Team. These roles are based at our manufacturing facility at Trafalgar Wharf in Portchester.  

 

Job Description

  • Ability to work with aluminium/stainless, specifically to cut, bend or shape
  • Able to use basic hand tools and machinery
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Able to apply sealant beads concisely
  • Design of small brackets
  • To undertake any other projects or tasks that are assigned to you
  • Conscious of weight constraints when providing fitting solutions
  • Any other ad hoc tasks that are required

 

We are looking for someone who has the following:

  • Able to work on own initiative with minimal supervision
  • Must have completed an appropriate engineering apprenticeship
  • Must be flexible and will move from job to job
  • Must understand and work to the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act
  • Must have experience of working in a continuous improvement environment and be willing to make an active contribution to the process
  • To be able to work to a high standard
  • Good communicator
  • Recognised Apprenticeship in Boat Building is desirable

Parts Database Co-ordinator

We are building three hovercraft and we need a motivated and detail-orientated individual to be our Parts Database Co-ordinator. This role is remote so a good internet connection is needed and there will be occasional office days at our offices in Woolston and Portchester.

The main purpose for this role is to coordinate the technical and commercial parts databases, to ensure they are accurate, consistent and up-to-date by entering and editing database entries with information from the technical and commercial teams and suppliers.

 

Deliver the following Departmental objectives: -

  • Update and maintain accuracy of all supplier details, including part numbers, pricing, lead times and technical
  • Maintain an accurate log of part number history and archive when necessary
  • Ensure that all technical part numbers added to EPDM correspond accurately with the part numbers on Sage.
  • Manage part number updates and obsolescence.
  • Ensuring that the organisation is able to use data software to its full capacity, whilst identifying potential improvements.
  • Ensure information is logged in line with our ISO standards and industry
  • Work with other teams to achieve the objectives of the
  • Support the commercial team with creating bespoke price lists for
  • Liaise closely with the sales team by ensuring Sage has the correct details for customer quotes and
  • Liaise closely with procurement by ensuring Sage has the correct details for supplier and purchase orders.
  • Liaise closely with the production engineering team to ensure bills of materials and job cards show accurate and up to date part numbers and labour
  • Work in line with company

Detailed Designer

Description:

Griffon Hoverwork Ltd is the world leader in diesel amphibious hovercraft. We have a South Coast, UK based manufacturing facility that is currently experiencing an increase in demand for new build and refurbishment of boats and hovercraft. As we expand the business, we are looking for a highly motivated professional to join our Technical Services team as a Detailed Designer. You will report to the Detailed Design Team Leader and be based at our design office In Southampton.

 

Your role will include (but not be limited to):

  • Delivering complex 3D models, drawings, Bills of Materials, Job Cards and other design output and support on time to the plans agreed to support each project or SOP whilst maintaining the released design intent
  • Assisting with the creation and maintenance of standard Build Schedules and Work Breakdown Structures for all products
  • Assisting with the creation of project specific Work Breakdown Systems agreed with the Production and Procurement Teams
  • Assisting with the administration of the business PDM system

 

We would also expect the successful candidate to be able to:

  • Operate to the Design Office Procedures and good design practises such as Design For Manufacture and Design For Maintenance
  • Continually improve individual output quality
  • Complete tasks in a timely manner
  • Work constructively and participate as part of the team
  • Achieve good attendance, productivity and attitude

Apprenticeships at Griffon

At Griffon Hoverwork we recognise the importance of developing new talent and therefore offer an apprenticeship scheme to those who are keen to start a long term career in engineering. Prior experience is less important than having the right aptitude and attitude, as we know we can take good people and turn them into the professional artisans that we need .

Intermediate (NVQ Level 2) and Advanced (NVQ Level 3) Apprenticeships are offered in the following areas:

Working in partnership with Southampton City College and Griffon Hoverwork, successful applicants will become part of an entrepreneurial team, whilst gaining practical experience from both college based and on the job development.

Entry requirements will include a minimum of 3 grade C's at GCE level including Maths and English for most roles but a minimum of 5 grade C's at GCE level including Maths and English  for the CAD and sales roles.

Most apprentices will work under the supervision of others,as well as attending City College one or two days a week.

City College Marine centre is located 100 yards away from the Griffon Hoverwork site, which allows close contact and support between the college and the company.
