Fire fighters from across the UK came together recently to undertake a Joint Rescue Hovercraft Exercise, in Weston Bay on the Bristol Channel.
The exercise involved the British Fire & Rescue Service using
their Griffon 380TD Hovercraft, to carry
out various roles, such as mud rescue, causality
recovery and flood rescue. A wide range of rescue
equipment assisted the crews which was carried onboard the
hovercraft.
As well as the British Fire & Rescue Service other rescue
operators in the UK include the Royal National Lifeboat Institution
(RNLI) who operate a fleet of Griffon 470TDs. A number of UK
International Airports also operate Griffon Hovercraft in
various rescue roles.
