On 21 April 2013 Griffon Hoverwork were named as winners of a Queen's Award for Enterprise - the UK's highest accolade for business success.
We received our award for International Trade, this was in recognition of improved year on year overseas earnings through improved export sales; consisting of identifying and successfully winning new contracts in a variety of markets; having a positive impact on society by offering employment in a range of skill bases and participating in college apprenticeships and university placements.
Adrian Went, Managing Director of Griffon Hoverwork commented "Winning our largest ever order, 12 large craft for the Indian Coast Guard, was a springboard for growth. Since then we have handled, amongst others, orders for the Canadian and Korean coastguards, the Pakistan Navy, the Venezuelan Department of Agriculture and fleets for both the Peruvian and Colombian Marines for counter narcotic-terrorist operations. Last year overseas sales formed 92% of our total turnover which has nearly trebled since formation. I am really pleased that this has allowed us to add back to a heritage of marine employment in Southampton with more than 150 permanent staff and, importantly, 11 apprentices"
Part of the 200 year old family owned Bland Group, Griffon Hoverwork was formed from the UK's two leading hovercraft manufacturers; Griffon Hovercraft and Hoverwork, in April 2009, bringing together 45 years of Hovercraft design, manufacture and operational experience. The company has more than 170 craft in operation with 64 military, commercial, government and rescue service customers in 41 countries across the globe. They are the World leader in launching new designs into practical service, retaining close ties with the work of Sir Christopher Cockerell, the concept originator.
