On Wednesday 30th July, the Peruvian Navy began their first international course on hovercraft driving and tactics on riverside operations.
The course is held at the School of Fluvial Coast Guard Operations, Iquitos, Peru, under the leadership of Captain Ezio PIANA Arenas. 25 people participated:
- Captain Lieutenant from the Brazilian Navy
- 1 Sub-lieutenant; 1 Corvette Lieutenant and 2 Corporals from the Colombian Army
- 1 First Lieutenant; 3 Second Lieutenants and 16 Technicians from the Peruvian Navy
They will be trained in Basic Hovercraft Driving, Tactical Hovercraft Use and Night Operations for 2 months. The Peruvian Navy instructors will be instructed by First Lieutenant Juan Carlos ELIAS Vassallo.
The participating armies have noted the success and achievements via the use of hovercraft in the operations in the VRAEM (Valley of the Rivers Apurímac, Ene and Mantaro) from December 2010 to this date. The Navy personnel who operated in the VRAEM will now train foreign Officers, Sub-Officers and the future crews of the VRAEM Fluvial Squadron.
