The Peruvian Navy are to receive the final two craft to their new fleet of 2000TD. The first craft, dedicated to training was received in August 2012. Griffon Hoverwork won a contract to supply the Peruvian Navy with five Griffon 2000TD hovercraft to be deployed in the Northern Amazonian rivers, in the enforcement role along the Peruvian border. The Peruvian Navy has operated two Griffon 2000 series hovercraft since 2009. The 2000TD model is the most popular craft in the Griffon Hoverwork range, offering a payload of up to 2000kg or 18 troops.
As with all Griffon hovercraft, the Griffon 2000TD operates from unprepared beaches and riverbanks as well as harbours, piers and pontoons. As these craft will be operated in hostile conditions as troop carriers and weapons platforms, the operational advantages demonstrate the effectiveness of the Griffon 2000TD in these enforcement roles in Peru.
According to the Peruvian Navy their accessibility of the Amazon jungles has considerably improved since the deployment of Griffon Hoverwork craft. In addition to the five hovercraft, our intensive and specialized training package for both pilots and technicians, will be delivered by the Griffon Hoverwork training department. Having realized the value of such training by Griffon Hoverwork the Peruvian Navy has dedicated one of the five craft solely to the training of its pilots and technicians in country.
The Peruvian Navy isn't the only Defence organization to operate the 2000TD; it is has been in service with the British Royal Marines (4 craft), the Swedish Coast Guard (3 craft), Finland Frontier Guard (3 craft), Belgian Army (1 craft), the Estonian Boarder Guard (1 craft), Lithuanian Border Police (1 craft), the Venezuelan Navy (1 craft) all of which were built at Griffon Hoverwork's facilities in Southampton UK.
